Fancy Ham Sliders

We recently had a baby shower and we were just the host house. I did help with other things like decoration and food too but I was not in charge of the shower. The person in charge decided to serve chili for the shower. Chili is not your normal shower food so we had to be creative and add some food items that would spruce it up a bit. My friend Maggie and I put our heads together and came up with a few good ideas. The “fancy” ham sliders was one of those ideas.

Everyone loves ham slidders but they too are not you usual shower food. So this is what we came up with:  Ham Slidder Pinwheels. They were beautiful and tasted amazing!

I didn’t use the traditional Hawaiian Roll, instead I used thin pizza dough from the refrigerated section at the grocery store, ham and swiss cheese.

I used a piece of saran wrap on my counter so I could cover the roll when I was done for refrigeration.

Then, pressed it out with my hands to a flat rectangle. I didn’t want it to be really thick with the dough.

Layered the ham and then the cheese. Easy, right? After layering, just roll it up.

I used about a pound of ham per roll and I made three rolls.

I did this the day befor the shower to help with time management. On the day of the shower I cut the rolls in in about a one inch pinwheel and made the sauce. I forgot to take pictures of this step.

I then baked them on 350 for abot 20-25 minutes. If you cut them thinner you will need to cut back on the time you have them in the oven.

This is the finished product:

Hot Ham & Cheese Roll-Ups with a Brown Sugar Poppy Seed Glaze. Perfect for taking to friends, new moms, and family because you can assemble it the night before and bake it the next day.

Recipe:

  • 1 can Pillsbury™ refrigerated Thin Pizza Crust
  • 3/4 lb deli ham (thin cut but not shaved)
  • 12 slices Swiss cheese

GLAZE

  • 1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a baking dish with cooking spray. In my case, (I made so many that I used a cookie sheet).
  2. Unroll the pizza dough and press into approximately a rectangle. Top with ham and cheese slices. Starting on the longer side of the rectangle, roll up the edge tightly. When you reach the end, pinch the seam together and flip the roll so that the seam is face down. Cut into 12 slices, approximately 1-inch wide. Arrange in prepared pan.
  3. Next combine the butter, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, and poppy seeds in a sauce pan over medium heat. Whisk until the butter is melted and the glaze is smooth and combined. Pour evenly over the rolls.
  4. Cover and refrigerate for up to 24 hours or bake, uncovered for 25 minutes until golden and browned. Enjoy!

So the ham pinwheels added to the chili but also made it a little more fancy like a baby shower would be. Our chili station looked awesome too!

Eveything turned out pretty awesome! Lots of help from others pulled together a beautiful baby girl baby shower.
